Johanna Griggs shares terrifying footage of wild NSW bushfires nearing her rura property

TV presenter Johanna Griggs’ rural property was under threat amid New South Wales’ raging bushfires.

The star said her family had worked tirelessly around the clock to protect their home over the ‘wild few weeks’ with ‘incredibly tough conditions’.

‘With fire fronts in three directions we prepped for the worst, but thankfully are the lucky ones this time around,’ she wrote on Instagram.

While the location of Joh’s property is believed to be in the Hunter Valley, she shared footage of smoke that had ‘come from Wollombi’ on Tuesday, December 10.

Joh has lived in the cosy valley retreat with husband Todd Huggins since selling their home in Sydney's northern beaches in 2018.

To protect the property, she said they had two fire trailers and six watering stations ready as firebreaks made their way around the house paddock.

‘For everyone who has been sending messages checking in on us, thank you; We are great. It's been a wild few weeks… Whilst conditions still aren't great we feel more confident that we'll be ok,’ she said.

Joh, who has been the host of Better Homes and Gardens since 2005, originally purchased the farm with husband Todd so they could eventually live off the grid and be self sustainable with their own produce and stock.

In April, Joh shared an update on the couple's veggie boxes thriving despite of the area’s dry conditions.

‘The veggie garden has produced and provided non stop. (Not included in the pics are the cabbages, carrots, broad beans, herbs and spinach – Also growing really well are eggplants, capsicum, chillis, bok Choy, pumpkins and sweet potatoes) Our bees haven't fled the smoke, and have produced in abundance,’ Joh said in the post amid the bushfires.

She added: ‘We are so grateful to the @nswrfs and other emergency services for everything they have done, and continue to do. And we're so sorry for everyone who has had a horrible time during this period. Our hearts break for you and for all the wildlife lost in these horrible fires. It'll be a long hot summer for sure for all. We hope everyone stays safe.’

In July, Johanna revealed her decision to leave House Rules, the show she had hosted for seven years on the Seven network.

Johanna announced her departure via her personal Instagram account on July 24, with no official statement being released by Channel Seven at the time.

Daily Mail Australia understands that network executives were disappointed by her decision to leave at a time when House Rules was already struggling in the ratings.

While confirming her exit from the show, Joh had cryptically told her social media followers that working on reality TV had been an ‘eye-opener’.

She wrote: ‘After a great deal of consideration, I recently sat down with the network to ask to be allowed to step down as host of House Rules.

‘Reality TV production has been an eye opener, they are such enormous beasts with so many people involved and I've had a great time over the last seven years steering the ship.’
